Queer & Trans Patients: The Underserved Population in Pelvic Floor Rehab

The number of folks in the U.S. identifying as LGBTQ+ has more than *doubled* in the past decade. Gen Z and Millenials make up the largest percentage, but queer and trans people exist across the lifespan. Whether you specialize in geriatrics, peds, pelvic pain, or postpartum (trans people get pregnant and have babies, too) it is likely you will have a patient in this community. Fortunately, the research is beginning to expand and we have more information now than ever about the unique ways pelvic floor rehab can benefit LGBTQ+ individuals. Please join this 1 hour lecture to obtain foundational insight into the health inequities for queer and trans people. Afterwards, during a 15 min Q&A participants will be able to ask any and all questions in a safe and non-judgemental space.

At this class, you will:

  1. Gain a baseline understanding of the current terminology LGBTQ+ folks use to describe themselves
  2. Feel comfortable implementing gender inclusive language in your practice
  3. Understand the unique needs of queer and trans individuals as it relates to pelvic floor rehabilitation
  4. Learn how to access resources to augment your understanding of gender affirming care
