GLP-1 medications have become incredibly widely used over the past few years, becoming some of the most commonly prescribed drugs, particularly for women at midlife. This class will explore the indications and off-label use of these pharmaceuticals, the implications for rehab professionals with a specific focus on pelvic and musculoskeletal health. We will explore the side effects and the strategies to counteract them, as well as the lifestyle strategies that are essential for health & wellbeing while using these medications, as well as managing life after cessation.

Participants of this class will gain: 

  • Understanding the indications of GLP1/GIP medications and the implications for rehab professionals 
  • Exploration of the potential benefits beyond weight loss, including reduction of inflammation and the implications for pelvic health, from bladder function to pelvic pain
  • Insights into the potential side effects of these medications, including on the gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal systems, as well as strategies for prevention/ management of these side effects 
  • Appreciation of the specific needs of menopausal women using these medications, and how hormonal status impacts the effects of these interventions
